Lawrenceville Monthly Meeting

Tony West - Americans For Prosperity

Our Mission

Americans for Prosperity exists to recruit, educate, and mobilize citizens in support of the policies and goals of a free society at the local, state, and federal level, helping every American live their dream – especially the least fortunate.

Our Georgia Chapter

Americans for Prosperity has a vision for an America where truly free markets allow for free and prosperous people. We use cutting-edge tools and technology to support a network of more than 2.8 million engaged citizens who are working to bring that vision to life.

Together, we’re persuading public officials to embrace an agenda of economic freedom, educating our friends and neighbors on the issues shaping our economy, and getting everyone involved in building a culture of freedom at the local, state and federal levels. Whether it’s on the telephone, at a neighbor’s front door, or on the steps of the state capitol, Americans for Prosperity staff and activists are spreading the word about economic freedom every single day.

One of 35 state chapters nationwide, Americans for Prosperity–Georgia has over 73,000 state activists and an ever-expanding base of local donors. Together, we work hard to preserve our free market economy and hold government accountable. Our efforts are year-round, talking to Georgians, discovering their positions on issues, listening to their concerns, and educating them on important matters of policy. The grassroots volunteers of AFP Georgia advocate for public policies that champion the principles of limited government as well as regulatory and fiscal restraint.

Legislative Update - The GA General Assembly is in session and because it is an election year there are some interesting bills working through, some proposed just to win votes as both Republicans and Democrats work to make a name for themselves.  We heard from one insider that this could be an 'ugly' session.  We also have the interesting dynamic of an open seat for governor and lieutenant governor - and a number of important Legislators will be leaving their seats and running for higher office.  Some of the issues that we will see:

  • Confederate Monument Protection
  • Religious Freedom?
  • Constitutional Carry
  • Instant Replay for High School sports (why is this a Legislative issue?)
  • Free speech on campus
  • Paper Ballots!
  • Several "Thought Crime" bills
  • Net Neutrality for Georgia

Plus there are interesting issues brewing at the federal level.  Find out what you can do to have an effect!
