Chairman’s Update, August 14th, 2012

by Gwinnett GOP
Bruce LeVell

Dear Fellow Republicans,

Romney-Ryan, America’s Comeback Team! Fellow Republicans, Governor Romney made a bold and visionary choice for his running mate in selecting Congressman Paul Ryan, demonstrating that he fully understands the stakes in this election. Make no mistake, this pick wasn’t simply to win a certain swing state, to appeal to a certain demographic group, or fill in some gap in the presidential candidate’s experience (as the Biden pick was clearly designed to appeal to the “foot-in-mouth” demographic!).

This was a pick for a serious and thoughtful reformer who stands ready on day one to help President Romney get America working again. This was a pick because the next President understands that the disastrous moves over the past four years must be undone, and undone quickly, and that this nation must be put back on a path of fiscal responsibility before we become a mirror image of the crumbling socialist states in Europe. This was a pick that gave me hope both for our nation, and for the campaign that Governor Romney is prepared to wage.

I could not be more excited to begin our fall campaign efforts on behalf of this ticket, and I hope that you share my enthusiasm. The Gwinnett GOP will be blanketing the county, beginning the week after the Democrats’ spectacle of half-truths and distortions in Charlotte, when we spend one week at a time in various sections of the county. We will be knocking on doors, making phone calls, and passing out flyers, all on behalf of our Republican candidates, from the Romney-Ryan team down to our school board candidates (Carole Boyce, Dr. Mary Kay Murphy, and H.K Dido, of course!). You will be hearing more details about this plan very soon, and I hope that you will make it a priority to give at least an hour or two per week in support of our efforts.

But before we start that, there is the small matter of the runoff election on August 21. The Gwinnett GOP is hosting a runoff candidate forum tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 15th, at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center (75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville) for the candidates running for County Commission District 3 (Mike Beaudreau and Tommy Hunter), Superior Court Judge (Kathy Schrader and Tracey Mason Blasi), and State Court Judge (Emily Brantley and Pam Britt). The candidates will be available for you to meet beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by a forum for each race moderated by 11 Alive News reporter Doug Richards starting at 7:00. I hope you can join us for this last opportunity to hear from the candidates prior to the runoff, particularly since the winners of these races will take office since there is no November opposition.

Finally, if you can’t make it to our runoff forum, I want to alert you to an exciting opportunity to meet Governor Romney’s son Josh. Congressmen Rob Woodall, Tom Graves, and Austin Scott are hosting a Young Professionals for Romney fundraiser with Josh Romney at the Park Tavern in Midtown, beginning at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow night, August 15th. This is a more affordable event than many fundraisers, and I encourage you to consider it. More information is available here.

Thank you all for everything you do for the Republican Party and our shared values, and I hope to see you tomorrow night.

Sincerely,
Bruce LeVell
Chairman
